Full & Part Time Preschool Teachers

Full Time Position:

  • School year: September – May
  • Optional Full Time summer work is available (Summer Camp: June – August)
  • 8am-4pm (8 hour days)
  • Monday – Friday
  • 5 weeks paid vacation
  • Located in Hopkins, MN

Part Time Position:

  • School year: September – May
  • Optional Full Time summer work is available (Summer Camp: June – August)
  • 3 days per week OR 24 hours per week
  • Located in Hopkins, MN

Roles:

  • Create/follow well-organized French curriculum
  • Manage 1 classroom of around 10 students
  • Organize and establish an appropriate, safe, clean, fun learning environment for children
  • Teach children ages 3-6 the French language (sub ages for K-12 After School Program, Summer Camp)
  • Prepare activities for children that cover French program
  • Create worksheets/workbooks for students
  • Teach using the immersion method (speaking only French to students)
  • Supervise, serve and clean up at lunch time
  • Strong communication skills with colleagues, children and parents

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Teaching certificate OR Bachelor’s degree OR Teacher’s license from the State of Minnesota
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with and/or teaching children

Skills:

  • Fluency required (through immersion, university courses, native language, second language, etc)
  • Can read, write and speak French at the equivalent of the High school level (in France or French speaking country)
  • Has ability to multitask
  • Passion for French language and francophone culture
  • Patience

Responsibilities:

1. Establish and maintain a positive environment:
Give positive reinforcement to children, encourage them when they successfully complete tasks. This includes role modeling, demonstrating appropriate behavior, clear language, and providing directions for positive participation in the classroom. The age of the child determines the level of instruction including pre-reading skills and recognition of colors, letters, and numbers, etc. Manage child conflicts in a positive manner. Observe and refer to concerns regarding children’s growth and development. Follow health and safety. Report any health concerns or equipment problems. Engage children in age appropriate activities, modifying as necessary in response to individual needs.
Purpose: Children’s individual needs are met in a positive way, resulting in a successful experience in the classroom.

2. Communication:
Develop relationships with parents and interact with them in a manner that models appropriate interactions with children and is respectful of the parent/child relationship. Utilize respectful communication skills, demonstrate cooperative behavior, and reinforce age appropriate expectations of children. Work effectively with all parents and students.
Purpose: The child/parent relationship is valued and child interactions are positive.

3. Team work:
Develop positive working relationships with staff and work cooperatively with all staff using a team mentality. Move to assigned areas as needed if enrollment changes. Attend department meetings.

Standard Measures of Accomplishment:

  • Children are engaged in age appropriate activities where individual learning is encouraged in a nurturing environment. Program curriculum is implemented.
  • Appropriate interactions are practiced and reinforced with both parents and children.
  • A clean, safe environment is provided for children.
  • Parents and children are responded to in a respectful and timely manner.
